Last week, clarinetist Garrick Zoeter sent me this wonderful live performance recording of my piece "All Rivers at Once" for two clarinets, featuring him and Wojtek Komsta. I wrote this version of the piece back in 2020 and was very delighted to see and listen to their performance last week on their faculty recital. They did an awesome job capturing the fun and adventurous atmosphere and loved to see them smiling and laughing at the end of it. 😊

This was inspired by a section of a Rumi poem with the same title:

What is the body?
Endurance.

What is love?
Gratitude.

What is hidden in our chests?
Laughter.

What else?
Compassion.

Night Song 🎻🎹✨🌟
Performed the violin & piano version of my song (Noche).
I originally wrote this as a song for bass (last song in my bass song cycle) and then reimagined the melody to fit violin for this performance and wanted to create an eerie, haunting melody with the high glassy sounds on the violin.

I'm excited to share this live recording because I really loved learning the piano part to perform with him and felt it went really well (and even made some changes to it on the spot) 😊

Last Monday’s post-concert/pre-afterparty hang after the UNLV Nextet concert was a lot of fun, and a wonderful way to celebrate an entire program of music by living composers performed live featuring my friends and colleagues. ✨🌟🎉

Last Monday’s Nextet concert was really special

Last Monday’s Nextet concert was really special for me because I wanted to organize a concert that featured a wonderful variety of music composed by my friends and colleagues, all of whom were in Vegas for this event, and all of the music was performed beautifully by UNLV faculty, students, colleagues and friends. Furthermore, I was very happy to have the opportunity to not only perform selections from my bass song cycle for the very first time live with bassist Norman Espinoza, but also perform the soprano sax and piano version of Michael Torke’s “Nave” with Shawna Pennock. I thought she did a beautiful job on the arrangement, and it was such a pleasure performing with her and Norman that evening. ✨

On top of all of that, it was such a treat for me to be able to have composers Carl Schimmel and Erich Stem here in residence for the concert. We all became friends when teaching at the Alba Music Festival Composition Program over the summer, and I’m glad it worked out for them to come here to work with our students and present their music.

It was such a special night to be there on stage with Sophia Tegart and Chris Wilson for the premiere. They beautifully captured the essence of the piece and can’t wait to share the studio recording at some point in the near future! 🤩🎧

Excerpts from the live-streamed performance of my song cycle at Stetson University featuring soprano Olivia Yokers ✨ This is the soprano & piano version and it was such a treat for me to be there to perform with Olivia! There are two versions available: one for soprano and piano and the other for soprano, piano and electric guitar. The version including Tasos Peltekis on electric guitar is featured on my album Long These Days.

One of my goals is to perform more. I missed this very much (I realized), and it means so much to have these opportunities to prepare the piano parts and be on stage to perform with these amazing artists and be a part of the process. 😊🎹

I had a fantastic time this week at Virginia Tech

I had a fantastic time this week at Virginia Tech collaborating with the faculty and students to be a part of their Music and Technology Festival. It was such an incredible experience for me to rehearse and perform my music with faculty violinist John Irrera and saxophonist Kyle Hutchins and hear some of my chamber music with faculty cellist Alan Weinstein, percussionist Annie Stevens and her very talented percussion students on the first concert to kick off the festival. I also had the opportunity to meet with faculty composer Charles Nichols and give a presentation to his composition class and discuss collaborations and other related topics with some of the students and staff in a “Fireside Chat” setting at the Mozaiko International Living Center while staying there as their fellow in residence.

Special thanks to Kyle for organizing/directing such a vibrant new music festival, to Carey Stewart for her work organizing my stay at the Mozaiko center, and for John and Annie for being such wonderful hosts, performing and organizing the music for my concert. It was an honor to be invited to be in residence for this and I’m looking forward to many more projects and collaborations with them! 🎵🎉
